September 1, 1997, sixty years after first opening, the Greater Moncton International Airport (GMIA) became the first privatized “National Airport System” airport in Atlantic Canada. The Greater Moncton International Airport Authority (GMIAA) Inc. Board of Directors contracted Vancouver International Airport Services (YVRAS), a subsidiary of the Vancouver International Airport and internationally recognized as a leader in airport management, to manage the GMIA on its behalf.
GMIAA Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation headed by the Board of Directors, has no shareholders and receives no government funds or subsidies.
Board of Directors is composed of 14 members of the community. One of the nominees is to represent organized labour in consultation with the Moncton and District Labour Council.
